Building essential healthcare infrastructure in remote areas is rarely without challenges. Yet, despite difficult weather conditions and rising construction costs, work on the health post project in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality continues to move forward.
From 22–24 May 2026, a monitoring visit was conducted to assess the project’s progress, engage with local stakeholders, and identify any issues that may affect the construction timeline. The visit provided valuable insights into both the achievements made so far and the challenges that lie ahead.
Strengthening Collaboration on the Ground
The success of community infrastructure projects depends heavily on cooperation between local communities, government bodies, and project partners. During the visit, meetings were held with community leaders, local stakeholders, and government representatives to discuss ongoing progress and ensure continued coordination.
Key activities during the visit included:

- Coordination with local government officials to facilitate the procurement and transportation of construction materials and equipment.
- Observation of the final preparations for the health post’s foundation works.

Progress on Site
The project has reached an important stage, with final preparations underway for the construction of the building’s foundations. This milestone marks the transition from planning and site preparation to the structural development of the health post itself.
While progress has been encouraging, construction is currently slightly behind the original schedule. The delay is largely due to factors beyond the contractor’s control, particularly weather disruptions and rising material costs.
Challenges Affecting Construction
Two major issues have impacted the project’s pace in recent months.
Unseasonal Heavy Rainfall
Unexpectedly heavy rainfall, compared to previous years, has made transportation of construction materials significantly more difficult. The off-road routes leading to the project site became challenging to navigate, causing delays in the delivery of essential supplies.
Rising Material Costs
At the same time, ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have contributed to a sharp increase in the price of construction materials across Nepal. As a result, contractors throughout the country are facing growing financial pressure.
The contractor responsible for the health post project reported:
- An average increase of nearly 40% in material costs.
- Delays in procurement due to market uncertainty.
- Increased pressure on project budgets and operational planning.
These conditions have led the contractor to adopt a cautious approach while monitoring market developments and managing resources carefully.
Looking Ahead
Despite the financial and logistical challenges, the contractor has reaffirmed their commitment to completing the health post within the agreed timeframe. Local authorities, community stakeholders, and project partners also remain actively engaged in supporting the project’s successful implementation.
Once completed, the health post will provide improved access to healthcare services for local residents and contribute to the long-term wellbeing of the community. The project represents an important investment in both public health and local development.
