After a long 18 hour day, we are back safely from Rasuwa district where the devastation was extensive and heartbreaking. All the villages along the road had collapsed but people were going about their days harvesting, rebuilding, cooking, and resting. We were greeted by our Tamang porters and members of their villages, and after an introduction of the materials we had, the village met and self organized equal distribution of food, tarps, and mats to about 80 households- approximately 400 people. They are highly self sustainable and continue growing their own food, but the rice and lentils we supplied will keep them fed for a month until more food can be harvested, freeing up time to start rebuilding their homes which they have already begun. We walked with them to their high grazing camp where they are living now that their houses are gone. We provided medical relief thanks to our two doctors, with one case that was quite severe and required an evacuation. We ended the day drinking tea and laughing with the families at their grazing camp, enjoying the blessings of each other’s company. There is much work to do. It is inexcusable that villages like this one within a few hours walk from the road have not received relief. We continue to work alongside our brothers and sisters to try to distribute aid to where it is needed most.
