Almost all done – ENT, hydroceles and a neurological assessment

On Thursday, our local health workers Tilar and Kumar escorted 20 patients and their carers to Manipal Hospital in Pokhara for their post health camp follow-ups.  17 saw an ENT specialist, 2 were referred to have their hydroceles looked at and Arjun for a neurological assessment.

It was a long day of doctors, assessments, tests and waiting, made all the longer as we kept losing people in the huge building the hospital is housed in.  Keeping track of 40+ people in such a large building is somewhat like herding cats – impossible!

Almost all of the group!

Although we were expecting to have people admitted for surgery the same day, nobody was and those that require further treatment were requested to return at a later date. Of the 20, 15 require further treatment.

Our two hydrocele patients Mausam and Tara Bahadur will return on Sunday for their operations, requiring them to be admitted for a maximum of 5 days.

Eight who are thought to require ear surgery were prescribed meds to clear away the excess wax and cure the infections that were lurking in their ears.  They will return after 2 weeks for a further assessment and surgery date if required.  The final 5 who need to have to their ears syringed will also join them.

Hopefully by the end of August everything will be done and we can finally close this year’s health camp.

Once again a huge thank you to Tila and Kumar for rounding up and looking after everyone so wonderfully.  Thank you also to Sudip for helping out and for volunteering to take Mausam and Tara Bahadur back to Pokhara for their hydrocele operations.

A final thank you to all our donors around the world.  Without your financial support we would not be able to bring free medical care to rural Nepal.
