As 2019 has drawn to a close so has our support in conjunction with our partner Bamboo, of the Shining Stars Children’s Home.
After 13 years of existence Shining Stars has achieved its goal as the kids have all grown up, spread their wings and are busy carving their own paths, following their dreams and creating their own destinies.
A bitter sweet time of course, as it is always difficult to watch those you have nurtured and cared for grow up, leave home and make their own way in the world, but we are immensely proud of the amazing young adults they have become and are grateful to have been a part of their journey.
From raggedy little children trafficked to Kathmandu from Humla during the height of the insurgency, they are now walking proud as nurses, chartered accountants, lab technicians, a pharmacist, a plumber, a social worker, teachers and several of them are working in the hospitality and travel industries. Others are still studying, covering a multitudes of disciplines from engineering, to dental surgery, to computer information technology, to science, to general medicine, to Japanese and agriculture to mention but a few.
All of this has been possible only thanks to the selfless kindness of a myriad of strangers who had their own dream – to come to Nepal and to give back. They say it takes a village, and in this case it is a truly global one.
The joy everyone has experienced over the years of support and interaction with the Shining Stars kids is immeasurable. So many smiles, laughs, dodgy dance moves, plates of daal bhat, friendships made and memories locked away in full hearts.
A Himalayan thank you to Bamboo and our Discover Nepal BamFam for embracing our Shining Stars kids so completely. An even bigger thank you to everyone at Shining Stars for allowing us to be a part of your family. Keep burning bright ✨.
