2013 Camp

In the spring of 2013 Himalayan Quests organised and ran health camps in rural villages in the mid west of Nepal, offering locals access to health care not readily accessible in the area.

A combined team of American and Nepali health professionals, supported by local youth club members, offered general health, dental, eye and midwifery services to 1,537 people in 2 different villages, over 5 ½ days.

Women                               1,043

Men                                     494

Total no of consults              1,830 (multiple consultations)

General Medical & Midwifery 840

Dental                                  461

Eyes                                     529

Reading Glasses given out    165

Prescription Glasses issued     82 pairs

It is our desire to run these camps on an annual basis thus ensuring these marginalised communities are at least guaranteed access to medical services once a year. You can find out more about exactly what happened in these camps last year by reading a first hand account of the whole experience by one of the volunteers who took part in them last year.

What we are looking for is looking for self-funding international health professionals to work alongside their Nepali counterparts and community members.

As well as medical knowledge, we are looking for team members with a real sense of adventure, who are resourceful, who have a ‘can do’ attitude and who are happy to embrace basic working conditions. This is a unique opportunity to not only see a side of Nepal closed to the average tourist, but to share knowledge and cultural practices, to teach and learn.
