After a successful camp yesterday in Ale Gaun, we have moved to Sirkot, our second location. After a bumpy two hour jeep ride that took us up through the clouds, we finally arrived at Sirkot Secondary School in glorious sunshine to be greeted by the majestic Himalayas that dominate the skyline in this beautiful village.
As per camp 1, we are continuing with eyes, dental and women’s health but have also added a blood sugar test for everyone over the age of 40 who registers for the camp. Diabetes is a growing disease here in the Nepal, and by such screening it is hoped that trends can be reversed by education and where necessary medication. For those who test positive for ‘sugar’ as they call it here, they will be counselled on the next steps to take to improve their health.
