Update #15

With as many schools back up and running as are able, we are currently helping a further two communities rebuild and repair their local schools, thus ensuring the children are able to learn in safe environments.

Firstly, we have returned to the village we helped with relief supplies near Jiri to help them rebuild their local primary school, Bajyusthan Primary School, which was totally destroyed in the earthquake. This little school has 55 students from nursery to class 5.

A 2-man team from Himalayan Quests left early yesterday morning loaded with 90 sheets of corrugated tin, as well as teaching and school stationery supplies for the long journey out east.

They are aiming to stay and work with the local community members for 5 days, working hard so that the school will become the proud owner of 2 new semi permanent classrooms, 2 new toilets and a hand washing station.

The second school we are working with is in the west of the country in Syangja District, Upallo Pekhu Secondary School. This old government school has been educating children for 64 years and currently has 250 kids enrolled in the school from nursery to class 10.

Thankfully not all of the school was damaged, and we have been asked to initially help with just two classrooms, and it is these two rooms that we are working on to replace with a semi permanent structure. Fifty children in classes 4 and 5 are currently still learning in these damaged rooms, as there is no alternative for them, and with daily rain learning outside is not an option.

Working with the school and community members, HQ is providing guidance and all the necessary tin sheets and skilled labour.

Full reports to follow, upon completion of the projects.

A Himalayan thank you to all our donors and their supporters who have enabled us to help others. Without your generous support, we would not be able to get kids back in to school in strong, safe structures.
